Is MediCube Vegan? A Product-by-Product Answer

Quick Answer

Is MediCube vegan? Not as a brand. MediCube holds no vegan certification, and its PDRN products use salmon-derived DNA, which is never vegan. Some products, such as the Zero pore line, TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream and Deep Vitamin C Capsule Serum, show no obvious animal-derived ingredients in their published lists, so you can build a vegan-friendly routine product by product.

  • Vegan certification: None held, including no PETA "Cruelty-Free and Vegan" logo
  • Clearly not vegan: anything with PDRN or salmon DNA, including the PDRN Pink and Rosemary PDRN lines
  • Unconfirmed: collagen products where the source is not stated on the label

Key Takeaways

  • Vegan and cruelty-free are different questions. Cruelty-free is about testing. Vegan is about what is in the bottle. A product can be one without being the other.
  • PDRN is the deciding ingredient. It comes from salmon DNA, so every PDRN product, and every set that includes one, is not vegan.
  • "Collagen" on a label needs a second look. Collagen is traditionally sourced from animals unless a brand states otherwise, and MediCube's labels do not spell out the source.
  • A vegan-friendly MediCube routine is possible. Cleanser, pore pads, a TXA cream and a vitamin C serum cover the basics without obvious animal-derived ingredients.
  • The label beats the marketing. Read the full ingredient list every time, from any brand.

Is MediCube Vegan or Just Cruelty-Free? The Difference

When patients ask me whether MediCube is vegan, they are often really asking whether it is cruelty-free, and the two get blurred constantly online. They answer different questions.

Cruelty-free describes testing. A cruelty-free product was not tested on animals, either as a finished product or at the ingredient stage. MediCube states it does not test finished products or raw ingredients on animals, and South Korea banned animal testing for finished cosmetics in 2017. I cover the details, including the China question, in my full guide to whether MediCube is cruelty-free.

Vegan describes ingredients. A vegan product contains nothing derived from an animal: no animal tissue, no animal by-products, nothing harvested from insects. A product can be fully cruelty-free and still not vegan, which is exactly the situation with MediCube's PDRN range. No animal is tested on, but the hero ingredient comes from fish.

The reverse is also possible. A product made entirely from plant and synthetic ingredients can still be sold by a company that tests on animals for some markets. That is why the strictest shoppers look for both claims, and ideally for a third-party certification that covers both. MediCube does not hold one, so for this brand you have to check product by product.

Which Ingredients Make a Skincare Product Non-Vegan

These are the ingredients I look for in general, across any brand. Some are always animal-derived; others depend on the supplier and should be treated as "ask before you assume."

  • Always animal-derived: carmine (a red pigment from insects), lanolin (from sheep's wool), beeswax or cera alba, honey, snail mucin, and DNA fragments from fish, which is what PDRN is.
  • Usually animal-derived unless stated: collagen, keratin and elastin, which are traditionally sourced from animal tissue.
  • Could go either way: glycerin, squalene and some fatty acids, which can be plant-based or animal-based. Look for "vegetable" or "plant-derived" on the label.

Kojic acid, for what it is worth, is produced by fungal fermentation, so it is not an animal ingredient. That matters for the Kojic Acid & Turmeric Deodorant, which I discuss in my MediCube kojic acid deodorant review.

My Label Check: How Vegan Is MediCube, Line by Line

I spent four weeks going back through the MediCube products we carry with one question in mind: if a patient were strictly vegan, which of these could I recommend without hesitation?

Week 1: PDRN Products

This was the easy part. PDRN, polydeoxyribonucleotide, is DNA extracted from salmon, and MediCube's own product copy says so. The PDRN Pink Peptide Serum, the PDRN Pink Collagen Exosome Shot, the eye cream, the multi balm and the Rosemary PDRN hair line are all out for a vegan routine. My explainer on what PDRN is covers why dermatologists still like the ingredient.

Week 2: Collagen Products

The Triple Collagen Toner lists hydrolyzed collagen, atelo collagen and soluble collagen. The label does not say where that collagen comes from, and collagen is traditionally animal-sourced, so I file it as "not confirmed vegan." The Collagen Niacinamide Jelly Cream gets the same label from me: likely fine, sourcing unconfirmed.

Week 3: Zero, TXA and Vitamin C

The Zero Foam Cleanser, Zero Pore Pads, TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream and Deep Vitamin C Capsule Serum showed no obvious animal-derived ingredients. These are the products I would build a vegan-friendly routine around.

Week 4: The Sets

Every MediCube set we stock includes at least one PDRN product, which surprised a few patients. The Gatekeeping My Real Age Set, for example, contains both a PDRN eye cream and a PDRN balm. If you are vegan, buy single products rather than bundles. My Gatekeeping My Real Age Set review breaks down exactly what is in that one.

How to Check a MediCube Label for Vegan Status

  1. Find the full ingredient list (the INCI list) on the product page or the packaging, not just the highlighted key ingredients.
  2. Search for "PDRN," "salmon," "DNA" or "polydeoxyribonucleotide." Any of these means the product is not vegan.
  3. Look for collagen, keratin, elastin, lanolin, beeswax (cera alba), honey, carmine and snail secretion filtrate.
  4. Check glycerin and squalene for a "vegetable" or "plant-derived" note. If it is missing, the source is unknown.
  5. Remember that bundles inherit the status of their least-vegan item.
  6. If something is unclear, contact customer support and ask about the specific product. Formulas change, and any guide, including this one, can fall behind a reformulation.

MediCube Vegan Products: Status by Line

Product or Line Vegan-Friendly? Reason Price
Zero Foam Cleanser and Zero Pore Pads Yes, based on published ingredients No obvious animal-derived ingredients $24.95 each
TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream Yes, based on published ingredients No obvious animal-derived ingredients $30.95
Deep Vitamin C Capsule Serum Yes, based on published ingredients No obvious animal-derived ingredients $24.95
Triple Collagen Toner and Serum Not confirmed Collagen source not stated $24.95 each
PDRN Pink line No Salmon-derived DNA (PDRN) $19.95 to $30.95
Rosemary PDRN hair and scalp line No Salmon-derived DNA (PDRN) $27.95 each

For a simple vegan-friendly routine, I would pair the cleanser and pads with the TXA cream, then add the vitamin C serum in the morning. You can browse the pads in the pore care collection and the brighteners in the brightening collection.

A Sample Vegan-Friendly MediCube Routine

This is the routine I give patients who want MediCube but avoid animal-derived ingredients. It sticks to products whose published ingredient lists showed nothing obviously animal-derived.

  • Morning: Zero Foam Cleanser, then the Deep Vitamin C Capsule Serum, then the TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream, then a sunscreen you have checked yourself.
  • Evening: Zero Foam Cleanser, one Zero Pore Pad on the nose and cheeks, then the TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream.
  • Two or three nights a week: skip the pad if your skin feels tight, and just cleanse and moisturize.

What you give up is the firming, plumping side of the catalog, which is where PDRN and collagen live. That is a real trade-off, and it is a personal decision. I respect patients who draw the line at fish-derived DNA, and I also understand patients who are comfortable with a cruelty-free by-product. Either way, you should know which choice you are making before you add something to your cart.

Where to Buy Authentic MediCube

Ingredient checks only mean something if the product is genuine. We stock 100% authentic MediCube in our Korean skincare collection, backed by a 60-day money-back guarantee and free US shipping on orders over $50, shipped from our US warehouse. If PDRN does not bother you, the PDRN skincare collection is where MediCube's most popular products live. For a broader view of the brand, see my guide to whether MediCube is a good brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MediCube vegan?

MediCube is not a vegan brand and holds no vegan certification. Its PDRN products contain salmon-derived DNA, which is not vegan. Some individual products, including the Zero Foam Cleanser, Zero Pore Pads, TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream and Deep Vitamin C Capsule Serum, show no obvious animal-derived ingredients in their published ingredient lists.

Is MediCube PDRN vegan?

No. PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is made from DNA fragments extracted from salmon, so no PDRN product can be vegan, from MediCube or any other brand. MediCube states it does not test on animals, so PDRN products can be cruelty-free without being vegan.

Which MediCube products are vegan-friendly?

Based on published ingredients, the Zero Foam Cleanser, Zero Pore Pads, TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream and Deep Vitamin C Capsule Serum have no obvious animal-derived ingredients. Collagen products are unconfirmed because the source is not stated. Check the full ingredient list before buying, since formulas can change.
